Beautiful song from Mazzy Star.
If you read the lyrics literally, it is about a person that is contemplating suicide or a person that has already passed away. This song can be interpreted in different ways. Some might say that it's about a person who is unhappy with with their life and want to find peace in death. Or it could be a person that is moving on in their life because they do not like how their life is like at that moment. Either way, the song is a farewell. The narrator is sad that they are leaving their loved ones and try to console them for when they're gone. And while I can relate to the emotions the narrator is going through, I find it comforting to let your loved ones that you still care about them even though you're doing something they'll won't like, like leaving or passing away. It is a difficult situation for everyone, but it is sweet to say your farewell instead of saying nothing at all.
I attached the name of this song to a letter I gave to this guy I had a situationship with. Same guy I wrote my "Francis Forever" post about. Univesity drama. This was years ago so I'm over it. I was saying goodbye to him and the lyrics of this song spoke to me because I was cutting contact even though I still liked him a lot.
And what I like about this song is that I don't associate it with that guy when I listen to this song. I can apply it to other relationships with friends and family with whom I don't have contact with anymore.
Look on down from the bridge
There's still fountains down there
Look on down from the bridge
It's still raining up here
Everybody seems so far away from me
Everybody just wants to be free
Look away from the sky
It's no different when you're leaving home
I can't be the same thing to you now
I'm just gone, just gone
How could I say goodbye?
How could I say goodbye? Goodbye
Maybe I'll just place my hands over you
And close my eyes real tight
There's a light in your eyes
And you know, yeah, you know
Look on down from the bridge
I'm still waiting for you
